Middle School Math Activities
The middle school math activities listed on
this page are representative of the high-interest, hands-on lessons on DigitalLesson.com that will bring energy, fun, and
increased learning to your math classroom. Students learn more effectively when they are involved in active learning
than when they are just completing book work.
Our middle school math activities are all available instantly via
download. Just browse the exciting math lessons and projects that we have to offer, take a look at preview pages
to get a full understanding of the activity and the mathematics being taught, and choose those that work best for you.
Almost every lesson or project is part of a larger eBook or you can choose our Super Package Plus!, which contains all four of our eBooks and our unique set of Mathegories (Jeopardy-style) PowerPoint games.
The middle school math lessons and projects are conveniently organized by topic and can be downloaded in a matter of minutes to be used in your classroom. We have
middle school math games involving number sense (fractions, decimals, etc.), geometry, statistics and probability, and algebra and functions.
A few of our powerful math lessons and projects are highlighted below. At the bottom of the page you will find a link
to our full offering of middle school math activities.
Enjoy!
Toilet Paper Geometry Project
Toilet Paper Geometry is
a math project that requires students to find the surface area and volume of a roll of toilet paper. Students calculate
the total surface area of the roll, determine how many rolls of toilet paper it would take to cover different surfaces, and then
calculate the volume of the toilet paper in two different ways.
Super Spinners Probability Activity
Super Spinners Probability is a hands-on activity that requires students to analyze
three themed spinners to compare the theoretical probability with their own experimental probability. Students then
collect and analyze data from their trials and and those of their classmates.
Proportional Pictures Project
Proportional Pictures is a hands-on
math project that helps students to discover the relationship between the perimeter and area of two
similar figures. Students discover that when they increase the size of their scale drawing by a factor of three, the
perimeter also increases by a factor of three, but the area increases by a factor of nine (3 x 3).
Stained Glass Window Graphing Equations Project
Stained Glass Window is a project that requires students
to graph Linear Equations in order to create a colorful (yet mathematical) display window. Students graph twelve linear
equations from the equation bank to create their own unique window. Stained Glass Window will help students to clearly
identify the equations of horizontal and vertical lines and easily distinguish between positive and negative slope.
Quirky Quiz Probability and Statistics Lesson
Quirky Quiz is a
fun statistics and probability lesson packed full of mathematical concepts. Students complete a ten item multiple
choice quiz that includes no questions or problems. They score their quizzes, analyze the probability of the independent
events involved (quiz items), and use bar graphs to represent their statistical results. Students also use frequency
tables, percents, exponents, and fractions.
